Beggs, Bishop again?

Since first teaming together in 1976, Dennis Beggs and Sue Bishop have become a deadly golfing combination. Four of the last five Canterbury mixed foursomes championships have fallen to the accomplished pair. Beggs and Mrs Bishop will defend their title at Russley tomorrow, and they will expect to extend their impressive record. The only interruption to their winning sequence came in 1979, when Fred Toskitt

and his wife Nerolie (Waimairi Beach) prevailed on a heavy Waitikiri course. Beggs and Mi’s Bishop struck back with vengeance last year, romping away by nine strokes at Windsor after rounds of 70 and 76. The runners-up were David Murphy and his wife. Sue, from Waitikiri.

The Murphys and the Poskitts should be among the main dangers to the fancied foursome, and it would complete a notable double for

David Murphy should he and his wife win. Three weeks ago, he won the Canterbury men’s foursomes with Bryce Jordan. Gary Maw and Judy Davidson are both Canterbury representatives and should form a strong combination. The other top foursomes include Kim Thompson and

Jackie Benschop. John McCormick and Dianne Woodhouse, and George Turner and Diane Ritchie.
