Dunedin wool firm

PA Dunedin Only substantial support from the Wool Board kept prices steady at. the Dunedin wool sale yesterday. The board bid on 90 per cent of the catalogue and bought 14,700 bales — about half the offering. In recent months the board has been buying an increasing percentage of the wool on offer at each sale. At the last Dunedin wool sale it bid on 81 per cent and bought 39 per cent. The offering, .of 30,000 bales of greasy ..wool consisted of 4 per cent Merino, 13 per cent Halfbred fleece, 41 per cent crossbred fleece. 14 per cent lambs’ fleece, 6 per cent second-shear, and 22 per cent oddments. For a March sale the crossbred fleece' opened up in good order, although cotted and tender wool was evident in some grower lots. Lambs’ fleece was not up to a high standard, many lines showing poor shed handling.

Prices for Merino fleece were firm, and Halfbred fleece and Halfbred skirtings unchanged, according to the official report. Compared with the Napier sale on March 20, crossbred fleece and second-shear were barely steady. Crossbred skirtings, oddments, first and second lambs’ wools were unchanged. Competition came mostly
