Triples hit by rain

The wet weather is turning the women’s bowls champion of champions triples into a marathon contest, and it could be another day or two before the winner is found.

Only one round — the quarter-finals in the morning — was possible yesterday, although two ends of the semi-finals were played before the rain forced the bowlers off the greens.

The semi-finals are between Julie Dickson (Woolston Park) and June Irvine (Burnside) and Vonnie Flood (St Albans) and Betty Steele (Linwood). Because of the heavy state of the Morrison Avenue greens, no attempt will be made to continue today. The tournament, depending on the weather, will finish tomorrow or on Saturday.
