Exports higher

PA Wellington Preliminary trade figures for February 1981 show an excess of exports over imports of $116.1 million, the Government Statistician has reported.

In February last year imports exceeded exports bv $24.2 million. Comparison of the two months is difficult, however, as both include some exceptional items. Merchandise trade was also disrupted this year by strikes in several parts of the transport industry. Last month exports were valued at $496.3 million and imports at $380.2 million. The value of imports reflected a substantially lower volume of Customs entries than is normally experienced at this time of the year. Included in the total value of imports was a consignment of railway guards vans valued at $6 million.
