Socred selects, two Chch candidates
Social Credit has chosen a p-jt-primary English teacher as its candidate to contest Sydenham in this year’s General Eelction, and a prominent speech and drama tutor has been selected as the Social Credit candidate in Fendalt,'n. The Sydenham candidate is Mr R. R. Bach, head of the English department at Hillmorton High School, and president of Hie Christchurch English Teachers’ Association.
Mr Bach, aged 46, is .married, with five children. He was born in Auckland, and educated at Auckland, Dunedin, Palmerston North, and Hamilton. He qualified as a teacher in 1957, and taught at Waipawa, Hamilton, Tokoroa, and Papakura befoie moving to Christchurch in 1972. In the Post-Primary Teachers’ Association, Mr Bach has served as a branch chairman, regional vice-president, delegate, and a member of the New.
Zealand Curriculum Committee in English. Mr Bach has been involved as an adviser, examiner and tutor at courses for teachers as an initiator of the new style English courses introduced since 1969. He is also a writer of study , guides for the W.E.A. adult reading groups.
He has coached rugby, hockey, and cricket teams, including the Canterbury Under-19 representative hockey team. He has also be.—i involved in church and light opera groups. H i s political involvement includes a brief membership of the Labour Party in 1970. Mr Bach has served as regional and “polwing” (political wing) representative of the Sydenham branch of the Social Credit Political League.
The Fendalton candidate, Mrs Louise Moore, is a long-time member of the
Social Credit Political \ League having served as f i the first private secretary ; to the league’s executive $ and Dominion secretary S when the Dominion head- •' quarters were in Christchurch. 3
She is past president of 'I the Lyttelton branch, and stood as a candidate in w Rangiora in 1969: and in ' Lyttelton in 1978. Mrs i Moore has been a member' of the Dominion political ■ executive, specialising iri ’ welfare and associated < fields such as housing. Her involvement in ‘ speech and drama has in- ’ eluded specialist teaching s for six years in English ’ departments of schools in ; Riccarton. She is a past ? president of the Speech • and Drama Teachers’ 1 Association, a present < committee member and J adjudicator. , ?■ i Aged 52, Mrs Moore is •. married, with one daughter. She manages a fashion shop in Papanui, but has also worked for the Chamber of Commerce and the Manufacturers’ Association. She is a member of the Canterbury Promotion Council, and has served on the council of the Canterubry Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. She has served on committees of residents’ associations for the last nine years.
