Census to cost $15M
PA Wellington The 1981 national census will cost about ,$l5 million, br $5 per head of population. The Government Statistician (Dr J. H. Darwin) gave [that figure yesterday at a 'press conference about the (March 24 census. ' __ Dr Darwin described the !five-yearly census as a time lof stocktaking. It would, he I said, give a “composite picture of New Zealand life” and be of wide interest to everyone in the community.' He emphasised the confidentiality of the information. I The Government department conducting the census,; the Statistics Department, was interested in the total information, not information about the person filling in the form. “We do not want to know who is a plumber with six' children.
