Polytechnic courses
Sir, — Regarding the article in “The Press” (Feb. 11) on the non-availability courses at Christchurch Polytechnic. I am one of the 20 students who wanted to complete the final year of N.Z.C.S. in biology. Because of instruction from Wellington, the final year Bio V is not to be offered this year as it has been previously. This information was only made known to Christchurch Polytechnic and students three days before enrolling commenced. The unsatisfactory alternative is a 12week block course in Wellington at the end of the year. This is not acceptable to the majority of students, as all are employed full time. Difficulty will arise when requesting this amount of time away from work. Also, any one studying another subject at Christchurch will miss one third of their lectures. — Yours, etc., J. MacKENZIE (Miss). February 11,1981.
