World record to Coe
NZPA-Reuter Cosford, England Britain’s Olympic 1500 metres champion, Sebastian Coe, set a world indoor 800 mteres record of one minute 46.0 seconds during an athletics meeting against East Germany yesterday. The British star, who holds the world outdoor record of 1:42.4, beat the former indoor mark of
1:46.4, set by Carlo Grippo," of Italy, in Milan four years ago. Coe, beaten in the Olympic 800 metres final by his compatriot, Steve Ovett, before , winning the 1500 title, was chased hard yesterday by Andreas Busse and Detlef Wagenknecht, of East Germany, but he pulled away in the closing stages to win by ten metres.
