Yachting to Penney
Three wins from five starts was enough to give , Philip Penney a comfortable .win in the South Island Laser yachting championships at Lyttelton over the week-end. 3 ' Penney, in Light Flight, also had a third, and in the fourth race he failed to finish after breaking his boom during the race. The championships were; also a triumph for the Can-1 terbury Yacht and Motor! Boat Club, the members of! which filled the first four) places. The first three heats of rhe' five race contest were sailed'
in light, variable conditions. However, the third heat was abandoned after exceeding the time limit, and when resailed was contested’in strong breezes-- as were the fourth and fifth heats. ’ A total of 23 yachts entered the championships. Final results, with individual placings from the five heats included, were:— Light Flight (P. Penney), 3. I, 1. did not finish. 1, 5.7 points. 1; Mandrake (S.
