Tourist numbers up
NZPA Canberra Australian and New Zealand tourists spent about SNZI9 million in Norfolk Island during the 1979/80 year. The Norfolk Island annual report released in Canberra said that an estimated $NZ8,185,650 was spent on food, accommodation, vehicle hire, and tours. Additionally, an estimated SNZI2 million was spe.it by the tourists shopping bn the island. The year saw an increase in tourist numbers — from 21,000 the previous year to 23,200. There were 12,800 from Australia and 10,400 from New Zealand.
