Managerial rewards
Sir, — The important factor in. the lower remuneration and inferior conditions of service for New Zealand managers is their comparatively raw state ofindustrial organisation. In the face of implaccable hostility from the Employers’ Federation and some sniping from a tiny section of the union movement (apparently based on envy of our potential membership and subscription income), this organisation has made steady but unspectacular progress in representing the group all over the country. Our operation is considerably assisted by the good will of other unions and the common sense acceptance of the facts of industrial life by many employers. Only a fairly rapid upsurge of support will, however, make any difference to the disastrous management-profes-sional drain which is gaining momentum and already having a big effect on the employment opportunities of award workers. — Yours, etc J. E. CORNHILL, General Secretary, Apex. November 24, 1980.
