Use made of N.Z. hospitals
PA Wellington The Government has confirmed that over the last four years several hundred residents of French Polynesia had been treated in New Zealand hospitals.
The information came in answer to a question by the Labour member of Parliament for Island Bay (Mr F. D. O’Flynn) who asked if any of the complaints had been to do with radiation.
Replying on behalf of the Minister of Health (Mr 1 Gair), the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr AdamsSchneider) said he had asked for the information. "It is estimated that several hundred medical patients from French Polynesia have been referred to New Zealand for treatment over the last four years. The majority of these were referred direct to Dunedin Hospital.” Mr Adams-Schneider said he had no information that the patients had been treated for complaints connected with radiation. He also did not know who had referred the patients to New Zealand.
