Offer rejected
PA Wellington Meat workers yesterday rejected the Hawke’s Bay Farmers Company’s latest offer and voted to maintain the employment restrictions imposed in protest against closing the beef house at the Petone plant. The secretary of the Petone sub-branch of the Meat Workers’ Union (Mr P. Field) said yesterday that the company had offered to reopen the beef house but had laid down conditions which would give the company the right to close it again at any stage.
