JACK NICKLAUS Jack Nicklaus tied with Isao Aoki at an 18-hole charity golf match yesterday but lost his favourite putter, reports the NZPA from Totsuka, Japan. Nicklaus won $11,900 but lost the hand-made “George Lowe” putter he has used for the last 18 years. Both Nicklaus, aged 40, and Aoki, aged 37, fired a one-under par 71 on the rain-soaked 6443 metre, par 72 Totsuka Country Club Course near Yokohama to split the $23,800 first prize money. “I felt bad when I discovered my favourite putter was missing,” Nicklaus said. “I wish it would be returned-to me.” Nicklaus said he had bls wet clubs put in . the locker room to dry after playing the ninth hole and taking, a lunch- break. Nicklaus discovered his putter missing and found another putter of the same “George. Lowe” trademark in the bag when he tried to putt on the tenth hole. “It may be. just a putter but it is my favourite one for sentimental reasons,” Nicklaus said. “It is the first time something like this has happened.” Japanese organisers said that the Yokohama, police were investigating.
