Death after overdose
PA Wellington A Porirua drug addict died after taking her week-end’s supply of methadone — three 45ml bottles — in one day. Earlier, she had told a friend she was going to die, and had sai she had posted a letter to her saying she was going to commit suicide. the Coroner's Crurt in Wellington has been told. Camellia Miria Pakura, aged 27 had also, the same day that she took the methadone, smoked cannabis and according to a witness, had bought a strong alcoholic drink called “Careless Suns t” — a mixture of liqueur, tequila, and orange juice. .A post-mortem exam-, ination revealed no trace of these substances in her body.
The Coroner (Mr A. D. McGregor) <ound that Miss Pakura died on May 17, the cause of death relating to the taking of methadone. “This case has all the sordid and pathetic set-up usually found in drug addiction cases,”.’ the Coroner said.
■ Sergeant R. Carter gave evidence that Miss Pakura had been depressed because of pending burglary charges against her and because her parents were moving away from the area . with her daughter, aged six. . 3 . 7'
