Vampire bought for $l200
An assortment of vintage aircraft and vehicles was sold at a public auction at Prebbleton on Saturday. Offered for sale by Mr G. A. Rhodes, of Prebbleton, the items had been collected from .throughout New Zealand during the last 20 years. A crowd attended the auction, .although most appeared io be'“sightseers,” according to Mr A. Souter, a stock clerk for Wrightson N.M.A., the auctioneer. Items sold realised a total of almost $7OOO. Top price of $l2OO was paid by the Ferrymead Trust Tor a Vampire jet aircraft. A Proctor aircraft was sold for $BOO, and a Dennis pump went for $lOOO.
: The Ferrymead Trust was one of the main buyers at the auction, Mr Souter said. The trust bought two old fire engines for parts, a complete trailer-mounted Army filtration plant, described as “unique” by the trust’s director (Mr D. R. Muir), and an old aircraft frame which will be “mocked-up” for use in the children’s playground.
