Aust.’s biggest diamond stolen
NZPA Sydney A big police hunt is under way throughout Australia fpr.two men and a woman in connection with the theft of Australia’s biggest diamond from an exhibition at the Sydney Town Hall. The 95.4 carat diamond, called Golconda d’Or and valued about $1 million, was found to be missing oh Saturday.* ’ A police spokesman said
the theft was the work of professionals: the offenders had had to break through a barricade and a raised glass cabinet before unlocking a big padlock. They left behind two small' cardboard boxes wrapped in' brown paper, with green nylon string. The diamond belongs to a jewellery company and was part of a 100-item exhibition held to raise $30,000 for a St John Ambulance training centre.
