Lay-offs at pottery
PA Auckland Crown Lynn Potteries is preparing to lay off up to 50 workers because of. a lack of forward orders for its chinaware. A spokesman for the company said that seven salaried workers were dismissed on Friday. Other sources suggested that between 40 and 50 more workers would be given notice this week.
The exact number has not been announced.
Crown Lynn, a long-estab-lished industry in New Lynn, had suffered falling sales in New Zealand aim overseas, a spokesman said. Lack of forward orders was forcing the company to reduce its staff of pottery workers about 20 per cent. The seven salaried staff who were laid off on Friday were either short-term employees, part-time employees, or were aged 65 or over.
