Sad loss for indoor bowls

The death this week of Gillian Williamson, at the ■age of 36, has come as a great shock to the Canterbury indoor bowls fraternity. Mrs Williamson, who was the wife of Canterbury’s most decorated indoor bowler, Alf Williamson, died after a horse-rid-ing accident last week. She had a life-long interest in horses and equestrian events.

As well as being a popular figure in indoor bowls, Mrs Williamson had also made a mark in a relatively-short playing career.. In partnership with her husband she ' won

three, Canterbury- • titles and earlier this year they won both the Queen’s Birthday pairs and Osborne Cup pairs tournaments.

Mrs Williamson represented Canterbury this season, in the Williamson Trophy tournament and when the province 'met the North Island.

She had a wide-range of interests, and was an authority on Beyreuth china, of which she owned an impressive collection. She is survived by her husband and by .her four children, Karen, Craig, Christopher, and CecilyAnne.
