Airport funds review

Parliamentary reporter The two-part review of airport financing now under way should be completed in between six and- eight weeks, said the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McLachlan) in Parliament yesterday.

He was answering a question by the member for St Albans (Mr D. F. Caygill), who had asked what were the terms of reference for the review and what was its likely completion date. Mr McLachlan said that there were no formal terms of reference for the review of international landing charges announced earlier this month. “Such a review is undertaken periodically by the Government at appropriate intervals to ensure that the user-pays principle is applied to international airport facilities. This review is expected to be completed in about six to eight weeks,” he said.

“The review of domestic airport finances is also focusing on the question of landing charges and will be considered in the context of the review of domestic air services policy, which is now expected to be submitted in October.”

The basic aim of the domestic review was to examine policy towards all domestic air transport and aerial works services, with a view to proposing any desirable changes, Mr McLachlan said.
