Kaiapoi council computer

,Jr, — Re “Kaiapoi Council to buy computer”. (“The Press,” September 17,' North Canterbury page), the Mayor has again misquoted the cost of an N.C.R. 1-8130. Purchase price including estimated landing and installation charges are quoted by N.C.R as $25,820 plus annual maintenance $2954, software, $560 and application software, one-time charge, $BOOO. The price would appear to be $37,000 plus. The borough’s accounting system I am sure could have been straightened out, if the machine purchased, the N.C.R. 299, had been correctly operated and used to its correct potential. They are now quite happy to accept $3500 trade-in for it, I wonder what trade-in price they will get for' the 8130, when the silicon chip arrives and their new model becomes obsolete. Rates in Kaiapoi have always been paid annually, but the borough office has for years accepted quarterly payments from those people who prefer to pay their rates in this manner. It certainly seems to me, a very expensive way to get cash flow. — Yours, etc., FRANCES PEGGY WADE. September 17, 1980. |
