Auck. nurses strike
PA Auckland Public health nurses in Auckland went on strike yesterday after a stop-work meeting over a dispute with the State Services Commission concerning their working conditions. They threaten another one-day rolling stoppage later in October should the commission not meet their demands.
The nurses who represent 80 per cent of public health nurses in Auckland, want four weeks paid annual leave instead of three, in recognition of the stresses of their job, a clothing allowance, and an additional allowance for being on call. The commission is prepared to pay them for overtime, but wants to reduce allowances in other areas.
