Change of venue
PA Invercargill The Invercargill Trotting Club will hold its Spring meeting on October 4 at the Central Southland Raceway, Winton. It will be the first time that the club has not raced on the Southland Racing Club’s course at Invercargill. It was granted its first totalisator licence in 1925. In a statement Mr H. A. A. Thomas, president of the Invercargill Trotting Club, said: “The decision to transfer our meeting on October 4 from Invercargill to Winton was a unanimous one by the committee.
"The question of rent paid by the Invercargill Trotting Club at Ascot Park is at the 1979-80 season is at present under arbitration - and it is hoped that the finding of the arbitrators will be brought down next month. ' ' “The club was faced with a rent agreement situation for the current season but has been unable to come to satisfactory terms with the Southland Racing Club. In the circumstances the committee reluctantly decided to transfer the club’s meeting on October 4 to Winton,. "The matter will be reviewed further when the decision of the arbitrators, the Hon J. B. Gordon and Mr R. Gilbert, is brought down. "The decision of the club to change the venue will, of course, be subject to the approval of the New Zealand Trotting Conference.”
