Higgins on M. B. J.
NZPA Melbourne Roy Higgins is the new rider for My Brown Jug m the $30,000 Underwood Stakes (1984 m at Caulfield on Thursday. Higgins has promised the trainer, Peter Jones, that he will decide after tlie stakes whether he will ride My Brown Jug in the Caulfield Cup. Higgins said My Brown Jug was possibly the only Caulfield Cup runner available within his weight range. _ “I will know after Thurs-
day’s race whether he is a decent Caulfield Cup ride,” said Higgins. “The 2000 m will be an ideal test for him.” Jones offered Higgins the remaining spring rides on My Brown Jug after Bob Skelton chose Our Epilogue as his Caulfield Cup mount. Skelton said My Brown Jug had not been suited by the tempo of his past two races in Australia. “These weight-forage horses are showing too much pace for him and he needs 2000 m,” he said.
