Exhumation denied.
NZPA-Reuter Fort Worth A Texas judge has rejected an attempt by a British author to open the grave of Lee Harvey Oswald to determine whether the body buried there is that of the accused presidential assassin.
Judge James Wright said no necessity or compelling reason for the threatened exhumation or autopsy was shown. Rumours, speculative theories, conjecture and public curiosity would not suffice. Lawyers for the British author, Michael Eddowes,
who tried to have the body dug up, said they were studying the ruling and would decide later whether to appeal. Eddowes contends that a Soviet imposter was substituted for Oswald when Oswald was in the Soviet Union before the assassination. The theory has been derided by other assassination experts. Oswald’s widow, Marina Oswald Porter, had agreed to the exhumation but his brother, who paid for the grave and Oswald’s burial, objected. .
