‘Welsh terror foiled’
NZPA • ! London The British police have foiled a plot by Welsh extremists to firebomb seven targets in the London area, the "Sunday Telegraph” has reported. In a front-page account the newspaper said the'Targets included Broadcasting House (the headquarters of the British Biroadcasting Corporation) and two other 8.8. C. offices.- - ; " : 5 Detectives uncovered the plot during recent inquiries in Gloucestershire, close to the Welsh border, it said.
"It is true we are aware of the plot and are giving the situation sufficient policing,” said a Scotland Yard spokesman confirming the report. “But we are releasing no details.” The discovery of the plot confirmed intelligence reports that Welsh extremists were planning to step up terrorist activities against the British Government, State-run industries and certain sections of the media, the newspaper said. The Government, bowing to pressure from Welsh Nationalists, last; week decided to grant the area its own special Welsh-language television channel.
