House ‘downgraded’
PA Wellington The Junior Government Whip (Mr D. M. J. Jones) has called on the leader of the Social Credit League (Mr B. C. Beetham) to resign from Parliament and take up a position in television.
In a notice of motion in Parliament yesterday, Mr Jones deplored Mr Beetham’s reported statement that he had not spoken in Parliament on the Gleneagles Agreement
because he had expressed his views on television. Mr Jones-asserted that this was downgrading the status and value of Parliament.
“If he prefers to express his views on television in-, stead of in Parliament, he should resign and take up a position with Television New Zealand,” Mr Jones said. Notices of motion are not debated when they are tabled in the House.
