A hero unsung?
PA Auckland Auckland radio stations are not playing Marilyn Waring’s single, “Working Class Hero.”
Radio Hauraki refused to play the record because it was not “good enough,” said its programme director, Mr M. Barlow, yesterday! Radio Pacific played it once on the day of release, when it also interviewed Miss Waring.
Like Radio i, it does not programme the single because it does not suit the audience or format. Radio New Zealand’s IZM and IZB stations have not made up their minds whether to play it. The record’s marketing company, C.B.S. Ripper Records, would not say how riiany copies had sold, but said the single was “bubbling” under the top-40 chart.
