One killed in jail riot
About 350 prisoners armed with sticks, stones; and whatever else they could get hold of rioted and set fires yesterday inside the Washington state reformatory* One inmate was killed and at least 20 inmates were taken to hospitals. Politicians braul The Brazilian Congress has voted to suspend nationwide. municipal elections* due to be held in November, for two years. Fist-fighting broke out between pro-Gov-ernment and Opposition deputies at one stage during the all-night debate. Most Opposition members walked out before the vote was taken. Earlier this' year the Rightwing military-led Government allowed the free formation of political parties in 'Brazil for the. first time since a military coup in 1964, . but complex regulations have prevented any party from being legally recognised. Shells -fired from the southern Lebanese./ border area seriously wounded a boy yesterday as the Prime Minister (Dr Selim Hoss) blamed Israel and called for pressure to restrain it from attacking Lebanon. The State-run Beirut Radio said three shells .exploded r near a ■United .Nations' peace-keep-ing force .post, at Abassiyeh village in the. Tyre area.
