T.U.C. to defy Polish Govt
NZPA-Reuter Brighton, '•< . England
The British Trades Union Congress will send a delegation to Poland on Monday whether theofficial Polish labour syndicates like it dr not, a union leader, David Basnett, has said. Mr Basnett," ’ who Is to head the delegation, made the statement after reports that the Central Council of the Polish Government-con-trolled unions (as opposed to the independent ones being formed) had reneged on its invitation or at least asked the T.U.C. to postpone the scheduled visit. . The Polish officials are reported to have said they were “too busy” working on new social legislation to meet with the visitors.
The visit has also been controversial within the T.U.C. Some union leaders have held that it would amount to backing the official Polish union structure against the workers who have: successfully gone on strike for the right to free tradeunions.
- Mr ..Basnett’s delegation has indicated its. intention to try to meet not only with officials but -with all the parties concerned in the Polish labour unrest.
