Skier injured in fall

A yo.ung skier suffered a back injurj' and severe shock when she fell at the Mount Cheeseman ski-field yesterday. She is Deborah Cleghorn, aged 18, of Motueka.

A Royal New Zealand Air Force helicopter picked her up and brought her to Christchurch. Details of the accident were sketchy, but it was thought that Miss Cleghorn fell on a fast slope, near the Canterbury Winter Sports Club headquarters, at about 11 a.m.

The Christchurch police alerted the Wigram R.N.Z.A.F. base, and an Iroquois helicopter, flown by Squadron Leader M. Crang, left for the field just after midday. An Air Force doctor and a nursing sister were on board.

Miss Cleghorn was strapped to a stretcher and flown to Hagley Park, where the helicopter landed at 1 p.m. She was . then transferred to Christchurch Hospital where she was treated and discharged.
