Car workers in protest march
PA Wellington . About 400 motor-assembly workers and supporters marched on Parliament yesterday afternoon, to protest about the possible “restructuring” of their industry. f The workers, from the Ford and General Motors assembly plants in the Wellington area, also heard speeches decrying the decision of these- companies to support the development of a world car. Mr Pat Kelly, president of
the Wellington Trades Council, said the trade-union movement would fight with every means at its disposal to prevent a restructuring of the industry a move that the workers fear would cause plants to close. He later led a delegation to meet the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schneider), who has said that thejmen’s fears are groundlessrat present. 5--No development plan for the industry would be de : vised without full consultation with both employers and unions, he said earlier this week. i'
