Middlesex won the English county cricket championship for the ninth time when it beat Glamorgan by 72 runs in the latest round of matches. Surrey, the only team with a mathematical chance of catching Middlesex, did not have a game New Zealanders again had fine games. Glenn Turner dominated Worcestershire’s first innings In scoring his ninetieth first-class century, and Richard Hadlee took five of Hampshire’s second innings wickets for Nottinghamshire in its two-day win.
