Taieri Plains assistance
North Canterbury small seed growers will be asked to help farmers on Otago’s Taieri Plans who lost pasture during the recent floods. The North Canterbury Federated Farmers provincial executive was told that almost 30,000 kilograms of ryegrass and ckn ver seed would be needed to restore the ruined paddocks. The provincial president (Mr A. L. Mulholland) said that Taieri Plains fanners were not looking for a
gift, but enough seed to return their flood-ravaged paddocks to production. The problem would be finding enough seed at this time of year. Many small seed farmers sold forward, and several crops had been har-. vested, dried, and sold, he s'aid. The executive was told that members of the Canterbury Friesian Club had given about 110 heifers to help dairyfanners at Taieri. who had lost stock.
