Wood fire approved
Two more fuel burning heaters, including one that uses wood, have been added to the Clean Air Council’s list of appliances approved for clean air zones. One is the Orbit Boiler, manufactured by A and T. Burt, Ltd, in Christchurch. It uses pea-grade coke, char, charcoal and some types of coal.
The other appliance is the Kent-Barker Log Fire, manufactured in the North Island. It bums wood with a moisture content of 25 per cent or less. Such wood must be cut and air dried usually for at least three months. There are now eight approved coal-fired burners for clean air zones, and one wood-fired burner.
