Prisoners drenched
Steady rain drenched, nine prisoners who continued to hold 11 hostages after releasing one of their captives at the Laval top-security prison, near Montreal. They settled down for their second night in the open with the hostages in front of them to act as a shield, while police sharpshooters kept, watch on the drama. The prisoners, most of them serving life sentences for murder, seized the hostages on Monday. Some tried to commandeer a garbage truck to escape but backed off after guards shot one of them dead.
