Visit by Truxtun

Sir, —The brash assertion by the Prime Minister (August 19), in trying to justify his acquiescence to the de* mand (in view of the Government’s craven complaisance towards the United States Government, request is too flattering a term) for a visit to New Zealand ports by the U.S.S. Truxtun, that the ship would “also be welcomed by the great majority of New Zealanders,” is quite without foundation. Apparently Mr Muldoon chooses to ignore the plain arithmetical fact that the results of the last election showed that he is ho longer entitled to claim to speak for the great majority of New Zealanders. — Yours, etc., . M. CREEL. August 20, 1980.
