Women and rugby
Sir, — Come, come, those harsh critics of R. T. Brittenden’s delightful . write -up on the recent women’s rugby game (August 18). Surely they could appreciate the “tongue in cheek” writing, similar to many by John Collins, and more so, by A. K. Grant. Possibly the critics are fanatical supporters of the footballing women, or avid Women’s Libbers, and are reluctant to accept any criticism. I do not believe that these pioneering women expect to be taken too seriously. As others have said of recent TV programmes and news articles: if they offend, switch off or do not read. Freedom of the individual is still around and no-one is compelled to read or listen to what may offend them. — Yours, etc., -V. ALLEN. August 20, 1980.
