Mr Birch to attend world energy meeting

PA Wellington The Minister of Energy (Mr Birch) will lead the New Zealand delegation to the Eleventh World Energy Conference at Munich, West Germany, next month. The conference is held every three years and this year will be concerned with the interactions between energy, society and the environment. Mr Birch said that Ministers and delegations from most of the world’s industrialised countries would attend the conference.

Mr Birch will also attend an investment seminar in Hamburg and visit big open-cast lignite mines and inspect the subsequent restoration of the land in mined areas. He will visit a coal conversion plant and a methanol research plant. Mr Birch will then visit Norway, where he will have discussions on the management and development of petroleum resources. ’ ■ On his way to Munich Mr Birch will make brief stops in Singapore and Malaysia
