New tourist centre
Greymout hreporter A new visitor centre at Lake Kanieri is being built by staff of the Department of Lands and Survey at Hokitika. The structure, of pole construction, is between the West Coast Electric Power Board’s canal and the river outlet on the lake shore. The centre will provjda ® full view of the
lake through a fully glazed wall. The interior of the building is expected .to feature . native ■ timber panels and, eventually, a plane table and displays. Information brochures will be available. The Assistant Commissioner of Crown Lands at Hokitika (Mr A> N. McGowan) said that a ranger could be stationed at the centre at peak holiday periods, if required.
