Swimmers fail to hit best form

NZPA Washington The New Zealand team of three Olympic swimmers failed to hit their best fom in a four-nation international meet at Edmonton, Canada, over the week-end.

Rebecca Perrott (Wellington) had two seconds, a fourth and a sixth, while Melanie Jones (Canterbury) recorded two third placings. Paul Rowe (Canterbury), who was troubled by a throat infection, was way off his best times, with a seventh and two eighth placings. in his three swims.

All three failed to approach their personal best times in the races. Melanie Jones recorded her esecond third placing behind the Canadian, Cheryl Gibson, in the 200 metres backstroke, clocking 2min 20.65 s to .the winner’s 2:16.3. Rowe cotild not improve on his Saturday performances, finishing eighth in the.loom- butterfly in 59.75.
