Guthrie fourth in Queensland
By ROD DEW The prominent Christchurch rider, Peter Guthrie (Yamaha), finished an impressive fourth in the Queensland 125 .moto-cross championship near; Brisbane last Sunday. The field included most of Australia’s top riders. Guthrie, who is sponsored by Tommy’s Yamaha, flew to
Brisbane, specially for the championship, decided over four half-hour races A new YZI2SG Yamaha was provided by his sponsor, and he was looked after; by the Australian .Yamaha dealer team. He has decided against staying in Australia and will return to Christchurch today to begin preparations for the
major Yamaha moto-cross in Hamilton on September 7. “It was terrific,” Tommy McCleary, jun., the managing director of Tommy’s Yamaha, said yesterday. “To be quite frank, we didn’t expect a' placing anything like this. As far as I was concerned, Peter was simply going to Australia to gain some experience.”
