Lawyer sent to jail
PA Auckland A solicitor, found guilty by a jury, of receiving five cartons of stolen wine, had abused his position to further his involvement in criminal activities, a High Court judge said in Auckland yesterday. Murray Hird Hustler, aged 33,, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment by Mr Justice Sinclair, who said it was “somewhat pathetic” to see a solicitor appearing for sentencing on such a charge. His Honour said he could
not overlook the evidence or Hustler’s behaviour at the trial. He said that Hustler had been observed in a transaction that was highly suspicious and his . Honour was satisfied that Hustler had been involved to a much greater degree than the evidence had shown. “I’m also satisfied that you were prepared to be in the receiving business in a big way and that the amount of wine found was only the tip of the iceberg,” his Honour said. jl
