Former M.P. ‘man of the people’
Wellington A former member of Parliament for Wairarapa, the late Mr B. Cooksley who died on July 25, has been described as one of the region’s “favourite sons.” . . ' ■< .. ' " f Mr Cooksley, who was the National member of Parliament for Wairarapa from 1949 to 1963 died at Horowhenua Hospital. He was 86.
The present member for Wairarapa, Mr M. B. R. Wairarapa Mr ’M. R. R. Couch, said that Mr ’Cooksley had been a man of the people. “I know people in Wairarapa who knew Mr Cooksley and would be sad to know of his passing,” Mr Couch said. “He was one of Wairarapa’s favourite sons.”
Mr Cooksley, who held the 0.8. E. and the Military Medal, was born in Canterbury. He was later a farmer and market gardener at Taita. . .
