U.S. legal chief to visit N.Z.

Wellington reporter :-.i; The United States Attor-ney-General, Mr Benjamin Civiletti; will hold informal talks with the Minister of Justice (Mr McLay), the Minister of Trade and Industry (Mr Adams-Schnei-der) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials in Wellington this week.. f/ ' The visit was arranged several months ago to allow Mr Civiletti to come to New Zealand on his way to .an American Bar Association international conference- in Sydney next week. The talks with Mr McLay are expected to centre on the recent anti-trust rhoves by the United States and consequent protective measures taken by New. Zealand. Mr Adams-Schneider’s office said that the Minister would do little more than be host to Mr Civiletti at a formal luncheon. / ■.
Mr Civiletti, aged 45, re» placed Mr Griffin Bell in August, 1979, when President Carter asked his Cabinet, members to resign. He has presented the United States case for the release of the American hostages in Iran to the International Court of Justice; led deportation proceedings against Iranian immigrants in the United States, denied Justice Department complicity in the Andrew Young-P.L.O. talks, and investigated charges of corruption involving Mr Carter’s budget advisor, Mr Bert Lance, and the financier Mr Robert Vesco. Mr . Civiletti will arrive in New Zealand on Friday. He will fly to Wellington for talks on the same day, will visit Rotorua on Saturday, and .will leave for Australia on Sunday.
