Samoans ‘value link’
PA Auckland Western Samoans valued their New Zealand links very highly, said the Prime Minister, (Mr Muldoon) yesterday. Speaking on his return from a five-day visit to Western Samoa, he said all the indications there were good? '.7' .. “I did not detect anything that disturbs me,” he said, “There is not the same cleavage today between
those who wish to move forward and those who wish to stay on the old basis as there has been in the past. “There was a general acceptance of the need to move forward but to do it carefully, placing one foot firmly after the other.” Mr Muldoon said he went to Samoa because “one has to go there to get the feel of the interplay of personalities of the families and the complexi t i e s of Samoan society.”
