Population rising again
PA Wellington New Zealand’s population is rising again. During the year ended June 30, 1980, the population is provisionally estimated to have increased by 4500 or 0.15 per cent, bringing the total population to 3,100,100 at June 30, 1980, according to the Government Statistician (Dr J. H. Darwin). For the year ended June 30, 1979, the population decrease was 11,500 or 0.37 per cent, while for the 12 months ended June -30, 1978, there was an increase of 160.0 or 0.05 per cent. ; . In the quarter ended June 30, 1980, the estimated popu-
. lation decrease was about 48,300, resulting from a natural increase (excess of . births over deaths) of 5700, and a net loss through migration of 54,000.
