Recreation payment causes concern

The Pioneer Motor-Cycle Club has a motor-cycle recreation area at Pound Road, which is causing the Paparua County Council some concern. Concern was expressed about who would have to meet the cost of fencing power pylons in the area, at a meeting- of the council’s town planning committee last evening. The council’s hearing committee had allowed the club a trial use of the area for three months. After that, the club could apply to use the area for three years, provided there were no complaints. Cr J. Y. Pethig said that if the club was allowed to the use of the area for three years the council would be committed to fencing off the pylons. The county planner (Mr K. G. Lawn) said that people who applied to use Electricity Division land had to pay the cost of any fencing. In this case the council and the motor-cycle club were the joint applicants and would have to pay. The committee decided to allow the club to continue

to use the area subject to the council’s negotiations with the Electricity Division about fencing the pylons.

Hoarding queried

One councillor was concerned about a hoarding advertising a Christchurch City Council mayoral candidate.

Cr A. Y. Shuker said he wondered why the hoarding had been placed in Paparua County when the candidate was standing for the mayoralty in the Christchurch City Council area.

Cr Shuker safd the owner of the property had put the sign there in good faith, but the political party backing the candidate should be spoken to. ■

Earthworks A problem has arisen between the Paparua County Council and the North Canterbuiy Catchment Board about earthworks control on Worsleys Spur. The catchment board expects the council to process applications for earthworks at the spur and then send them to the board for corn-

ments. But the council wants the system to wor kthe other ways . Further discussion will be held with the catchment board.
