McPhail and Gadsby

Sir, — After viewing “McPhail and Gadsby on Medicine" for 15 minutes ’ I was forced to turn off my set. The jokes were, feeble and the acting pathetic. In my opinion these programmes, which are less than mediocre, portray uncouth slobs and. will appeal only, to those who have no good taste. This series, along with all so-called comedy and drama programmes produced in New Zealand, should be abandoned immediately and the so-called New Zealand actors and “comedians” made redundant. Actors in New Zealand can never; hope to equal the professional actors who appear in the best of the British programmes. How much longer will the Broadcasting Corporation of New Zealand waste-the taxpayers’ money on boring,, amateur “home movies”? The New Zealand scriptwriters have not . the talent either. I wish somebody would get up a petition against these 'weak

programmes and present it to the Government. — Yours, etc R. J. BURNS. Lyttelton. July 23, .1980.
