Road warning ignored

Many motorists do not seem to know (hat a red reflective triangle placed on the road warns them of a breakdown . ahead, according to a Christchurch woman. Mrs J. Harris, told “The Press” that she and her husband had used a safety triangle twice in the last two weeks to warn other motorists of icy patches on the Arthur’s Pass road. But . she said many motorists ignored the triangle and just carried on into trouble.

", The current edition of 'the “Road Code” reminds drivers that warning of a breakdown ahead can be given by “either a red reflective triangle placed on the road, or by the motorist using his flashing indicators simultaneously.” The chief city traffic officer (Mr W. R. Fox) said that flashing lights were more effective as a waminf an oncoming hazard. “But. .our policy is that any warning is better than no warning,” he- said.'
